Lucio Saffaro (Trieste 1929 - Bologna 1998) was a painter, author and mathematician. Nearing the end of his life, with no heirs, Saffaro sought to ensure the establishment of a foundation to preserve the significant body of work, spanning the arts, mathematics and literature, that he was leaving behind. In addition to cataloguing and curating his works, the Foundation bearing his name seeks to gain wider cultural recognition for these works through exhibitions, conferences and publications. Other initiatives aimed at placing Lucio Saffaro’s artistic merits in a wider research context are also promoted. This is the motivation behind the Foundation’s decision to gift Saffaro’s entire body of scientific writings to the Department of Mathematics of the University of Bologna, where they are currently available for consultation."
